Thousands of PhD theses available online

Making thousands of PhD theses available online with the ScanRobot® 2.0 MDS.

Trinity College Dublin

Trinity published the first 2,000 (out of 6.500) theses online.

The digitizing was a collaboration of different bodies from the college. To ensure highest quality in scanning this was outsourced to Glenbeigh Records Management (GRM), a company which is specialised in comprehensive digitizing projects.

Highest quality level

To meet the quality requirements of Trinity GRM used the automatic book scanner ScanRobot 2.0 MDS from TREVENTUS to scan the thesis. This was necessary as some theses were water damaged and Trinity went for a quality level that acts as a digital surrogate to the original paper thesis.

Biggest project of this type for Irish scale

This project distinguishes Trinity from other universities in Ireland. According to Helen Shenton (Librarian and College Archivist) this project means that “on the Irish scale, we are the biggest” project of this type.
